SHARP Photocatalytic Technology
Photocatalysis are substances that exhibit high oxidizing power when exposed to light, and chemically decomposes harmful substances and odor components on contact. Years of experience in semiconductor device development have equipped Sharp with a solid foundation of process technology, while years of experience in MFP toner development and production have made it into an expert in powder pulverization and dispersion.
By integrating these two realms of expertise, Sharp is able to develop a unique photocatalytic material whose effects and safety are objectively attested to through third-party testing.

Our photocatalytic material uses tungsten oxide as its main component. Compared to titanium oxide, which has been commonly used, tungsten oxide responds to a wider range of wavelengths of light. So it has a strong oxidizing power not only under sunlight containing ultraviolet but also under visible light of indoor lightings such as fluorescent lamps and LEDs. In addition, the platinum particles blended in as auxiliary catalysts further improve the performance.
